Group hopes to raise money for promising South Sudanese students

A group of South Sudanese well-wishers have launched a campaign to raise money for students in need. The group is appealing to members of the business community, diaspora, and others to support students with funds.

So far the group has developed a list of fourteen students who need school fees, according to Abu Deng, who is helping organize the support. The majority live in Kenya but some live in Uganda, South Sudan, and the UK.

One of the students listed for support is Kuol Tito Yak, who scored high in 2015 in his Kenyan primary leaving examination and hopes to study medicine in the future. The group also includes Aluel Isaiah Abraham and Abraham Chang Diing, the children of journalist Isaiah Abraham who was killed in 2012.

Relatives and teachers of Aluel say they are encouraged to solicit support for her because her performance at school has been encouraging and it would be wise she is supported to continue with her studies to achieve her dreams in life.

Majak D'Agoot, a former minister of defense who has pledged support for the campaign, said students who benefit will come from many genders, regions, ethnicities, and social status.
