A Sudanese herder was killed and two others were injured when a grenade exploded in Manyo County of South Sudan’s Fashoda State on Monday, authorities said.

Typically the Sudanese herders migrate seasonally into South Sudan with their cattle.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Manyo County Commissioner Oyath Ochol Otwal said the incident occurred when a grenade picked from a location near an army base exploded.

He, however, said that Monday’s explosion occurred unexpectedly.

Oyath revealed that authorities transported the deceased’s body and handed it over to relatives, while those injured were taken to a hospital in the county.

Last week, a 35-year-old man blew himself up with a grenade that exploded in Ikotos County of Torit State.
