Greenbelt Academy High School have been crowned winners of the third edition of the South Sudan Debaters Contest in Bor.
Greenbelt outshone their competitors and captured the hearts of the spectators in a closely contested intellectual showdown.
Organized by the Teachers Without Borders Association, the competition was held under the theme: “Peace, Justice, and Equality.”
Greenbelt Academy garnered 249 points, edging out Amazing Grace High School, who managed 246 points.
Chief Judge Manyok Philip Deng lauded all the participants, noting the competitive spirit and depth of reasoning displayed.
“It was a tight and impressive debate, showcasing the intellectual potential of our young people,” said Deng.
Greenbelt Academy will represent Jonglei State in the National Debaters Contest, scheduled for later this year in Juba.
One of Greenbelt’s star debaters, Ayuen Abraham Panchol, expressed her delight after the announcement:
“I am grateful for what we have done. I did not expect that we would do this much,” said Ayuen.
She offered encouragement to her fellow students not to be discouraged by the outcome.
Though finishing as runners-up, Amazing Grace High School had their moment of pride too, with Widom Majuac being honored as the Best Debater, a recognition of his eloquence, clarity, and commanding presence.
