Youth from the Greater Magwi counties in South Sudan’s Torit state are demanding for creation of a new state.
The youth voiced their demands to government through vice president, James Wani Igga when he visited the area recently.
Magwi county commissioner, Ochola Bosco Oringa told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that youth from the three counties of Magwi, Ayachi and Pageri in Torit state want government to create a separate state.
“Youth of Magwi said they want a separate state. These are things which are very special from youth. The community also talked things that they see are obstacles to them as Acholi community. They want the government to help them so that development comes to the area,” Oringa.
“People are just crying for development,” he added.
The civil war in the country, the commissioner acknowledged, affected delivery of services to the local population, requesting the government to deliver the most wanted services for the people.
“People also thank the government, but the community like the youth and women yearn for social services, people want schools, health services, roads, clean water and support to the returning population most importantly the social services that will help the community so that people stay in peace,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Igga, according to Oringa, vowed to table all complaints from the youth to the national government in Juba.
The vice president was on a tour of the Greater Magwi counties on 31 December, 2018 to get acquainted with the challenges its people face.
He also visited Nimule and Pageri counties of Torit state last Friday.
