A total of 1, 927 are sitting this year’s exams in the states.The secondary school leaving examinations kicked off on Monday across the country.

Addressing candidates of Rumbek Secondary School in Rumbek town on Monday, the Western Lakes State governor, Mahmoud Solomon Agok urged the students to read hard so that they write their exams with confidence.

“I would like to give you a word of encouragement and confidence so that you do your examinations with confidence. All of you or if not three quarters of you will pass the exams,” Agok said.

“This is the day your parents, teachers and relatives were all aiming for since the first day of your enrolment in primary school. Now you are done with basic education after completing secondary school examinations. The next step is to specialize at university,” he added.

The governor urged the students not to develop examinations fever. He lauded the increase in the number of female candidates.

Separately, the education minister in Eastern Lakes State, Malith Joshua Ahol urged students to be committed during exams period.

Meanwhile, the Gok State education minister, Chol Majuec said his state only has Cuei-bet secondary school, which has 29 candidates sitting exams.

He cited poor learning environment, insecurity and lack of qualified teachers as some of the major factors affecting education in the state.
