More than 150 police recruits are undergoing training in Gadiang, of South Sudan's Jonglei state to be part of a joint security force that will improve the security situation in greater Jonglei region.

A peace conference in 2017 by Bieh, Fangak, Akobo, Boma and Jonglei states resolved to form a Joint Integrated Police (JIP) of 2,500 policemen to be stationed in Gadiang.

According to Jonglei state Governor Philip Aguer, the training commenced on Thursday.

“The training was partly launched because we have some recruits on the ground mostly from Jonglei. This is the first group that has started using the presence of trainers sent from Juba. We are still waiting for recruits from Bieh, Akobo, Boma, and Fangak so that we call it fully integrated police," he said.

Aguer pointed out that the police currently being trained will provide security and protection for the communities in the region.

According to the 2017 peace conference, each state is expected to contribute 500 recruits for training and JIP.
