Govt, opposition forces meet in Leer and agree to work together

Government officials and opposition forces allied to Riek Machar’s SPLM-IO leaders met in Leer County in South Liech State on Wednesday to celebrate the peace signed last September and renew their commitment to cooperate in implementing the deal.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Southern Liech Information minister Nyuon Joseph said they received a delegation of SPLM-IO and held meetings aimed at celebrating the peace agreement.

James Yoach, spokesperson of the SPLA-IO in Southern Liech State said the delegation led by SPLM-IO appointed Leer commissioner Stephen Chap Kach and consists of military leaders and representatives of women, youth and local leaders.

“We have meeting and we are telling the people that the IO and government have signed an agreement, there will be no more killings. We are really coming to build confidence and trust among us as per the agreement,” he added.

Yoach further added that the opposition and government will hold another round of meetings on Saturday in the spirit of building confidence among them.
