The sounds of artillery fire were heard from Bentiu this morning off and on for about twenty minutes, according to a witness.
The witness said the sound of the firing was louder than the sound of the explosions, indicating that the government forces occupying the town were shelling toward outlying areas. Though rebel forces were previously occupying areas surrounding Bentiu, it is not clear whether the artillery fire this morning was a drill or targeted suspected enemy forces.
Fighting has been continuing in parts of Unity State but there are few reliable reports available about it because of lack of phone networks, roads and access for journalists.
