Government and opposition forces have clashed Monday in different parts of Wau County in South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal.

Sources in Wau told Radio Tamazuj that goverment troops moved from Busari towards Kurkunda area where SPLM-IO forces are stationing.

“Yesterday in Wau county around 8:30 am we seen government troops have moved from position in Wau toward the area where the opposition forces were stationed. When they reached the area we hear heavy gunfire after that they returned back to their place in Wau county,” one source said.

They reported hearing heavy gunfire following return of government troops to Busari area. The sources also reported hearing gunfire in Angu Bagari the
headquarter of Wau county.

Tingo Peter, a member of SPLM-IO and a native of Wau accused government forces of attacking their position.

He told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday that government forces have attacked their position in Kurkund and Angu Bagari.

He added that they are expecting attacks from the government to their positions.

“We are expecting attacks from the government by air and on land,” he said. 

UPDATE: Radio Tamazuj contacted Lul Ruai, the government army spokesman for comment, but he said he did not know anything about the clashes.
