Governors form committee to address Bahr Gel and Ngap border disputes

The Governor of Gok State Madhang Majok Meen and Governor Abraham Makoi Bol Kodi of Western Lakes States held a meeting in Cueibet on Monday this week to discuss the issue of the Ngap/Bahr el Gel land disputes between the two states.

A border row earlier in August this year resulted in a summons of the two governors by the National Council of States on 23 September.

The meeting of the two governors resolved to form a high-level committee composing of Security Advisors of the two States, Police Commissioners of the two states and representatives of the National Security and other members to be added by the committee.

The committee is tasked to prepare a ground for the two governors to conduct a rally in the disputed areas of Ngap and Bahr el Gel. The two states claim ownership.

The two governors were urged by the Council of States to address those issues at their level as states before the formation of a committee by the Council of States to visit the site to verify the facts on the ground.
