Governor of Sudanese Sennar State instates curfew in a number of districts in Mayarno

The governor of Sudan’s Sennar State, Ahmed Abbas, has recently declared a curfew in Mayarno town, amid discontent of the local residents.

Citizens told Radio Tamazuj that they were perplexed by the news of the ‘state of emergency’ announced via the media, expressing their dissatisfaction, also because a reason for imposing the curfew was not given.

The state of emergency was reportedly declared at Hai Neem, Zahur, Banet and Hai Nimir 2 residential areas in Sennar’s district of Mayarno.

The Mayarno Town advisory council announced its full support to the state of emergency imposed by Governor Abbas for the first time in Sennar town.

A local source who preferred anonymity, noted that the state government intends to tighten the security situation in the region following the recent anti-government demonstrations in some parts of Sennar state.
