The Governor of South Sudan’s Warrap State, Nyandeng Malek, issued two decrees on 29 October appointing 11 ministers and five advisors to the state government.
The state government secretary-general, Gabriel Khamis, told Radio Tamazuj that the governor has appointed five advisors, headed by Elijah Deng, advisor on economic affairs, and Ibor Kuol, advisor on gender and social welfare.
The former inspector of South Sudan’s national police service, General Achuil Tito, has been appointed as state minister of Local Government.
Malek downsized the state’s cabinet by appointing 11 ministerial positions instead of 15.
The naming of the new cabinet raised criticism in the state. Officials say that the parliamentary vetting process was bypassed by the governor. A Warrap State member of parliament accused the governor of running the state like a “personal property”. Acting in this way “undermines the democratic process in this state and the country in general”, he stressed.
