Governor of N Bahr al Ghazal tries to order traders not to raise prises

The Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal Major General Akot Deng Akot has tried to order state traders to sell foodstuffs like sorghum at far less than their current market price.

Citizens complained that food commodities are becoming more expensive, for example, one sorghum sack can cost as much as SSP 750 and the price is expected to increase shortly as the harvests finished.

The governor announced at an event at Freedom Square last week that a big bag of sorghum should be sold at only 150 SSP. “I am saying food commodities especially sorghum, a huge sack should be sold with SSP 150 only, so that simple citizens can survive. This is an order it shall be with effect of today onward,”Akot warned.

But his order has not been respected because traders continue to sell their goods at higher rates while the government itself has no commodities to sell to bring down the prices.
