A delegation led by Central Equatoria State Governor Agustino Jadalla Wani, arrived in Yambio town of Western Equatoria State on Thursday morning to participate in the third anniversary celebrations of the Azande Kingdom.
Atoroba Peni Rikito Gbudue is the current King of the Azande Kingdom in South Sudan. He was crowned on February 9, 2022, after the kingdom was restored following the death of his great-grandfather, King Gbudwe, in 1905.
Speaking to the press upon arrival, Central Equatoria State acting Information Minister Jacob Aligo Wani, emphasized that the visit aims to show solidarity with the Azande Kingdom and strengthen national unity.
“We are here to attend the third anniversary of the Azande Kingdom. Our delegation includes two national ministers, the secretary-general, a press team, and other support staff. It is an honor to be part of this significant occasion,” Wani stated.
He highlighted the importance of the celebration in promoting unity in South Sudan.
“This event is special because it brings together representatives of all 64 tribes of South Sudan to celebrate our shared heritage,” he added.
Former Presidential Affairs Minister Joseph Bangasi Bakosoro, who is part of the delegation, reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the Azande Kingdom and fostering peace.
“We are here to celebrate with the Azande people and show our appreciation. Traditional leadership plays a key role in promoting peace, and this is an opportunity to strengthen that bond,” Bakosoro said.
The Kingdom’s Minister, Prince Tadeo Mario Sasa, officially welcomed the delegation from Central Equatoria and other national officials.
“King Atoroba Peni Rikito Gbudue has delegated me to receive Governor Agustino Jadalla Wani and his team. Their presence is a great honor, demonstrating their support and recognition of the vital role of traditional leadership in fostering peace and stability in South Sudan,” Sasa stated.
He further explained that this year’s celebrations would focus on strengthening the foundation of the Azande Kingdom and launching new customary laws.
The Governor of Western Equatoria State, Lt. Gen. Alfred Futuyo Karaba, assured the visiting delegation of a peaceful and secure environment.
“The state is calm, security is stable, and we are in a time of peace. I warmly welcome our national ministers and the delegation from Central Equatoria. They should feel at home,” Karaba said.
The celebrations entail cultural performances, keynote speeches, and discussions on the role of traditional leadership in fostering peace and unity.
