Central Equatoria State Governor Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani has issued a clear mandate to Johnson Swaka, the newly appointed mayor of Juba City Council (JCC), emphasizing the urgent need to address the city’s sanitation and infrastructure challenges.
Swaka was sworn in as mayor on Thursday, succeeding Flora Gabriel Modi.
In his speech after the swearing-in of the new JCC chief, Governor Jadalla highlighted the pressing issue of waste management in residential areas and instructed Mayor Swaka to expeditiously clean up the city.
“The large garbage is in the residential areas,” Jadalla said. “My message to you today is that you must register all the homes in this city to secure resources for cleaning Juba.”
He added: “Additionally, focus on opening and improving roads within the city.”
The governor also referenced the legacy of Former Mayor Kalisto Wani, acknowledging his significant contributions to the city.
“Kalisto Wani registered a strong history in the Juba City Council,” he stated. “I expect you to reach or surpass the level of Kalisto.”
Governor Jadalla expressed his full support for Mayor Swaka, pledging to back him in his efforts to transform Juba into a cleaner and more beautiful city.
“I vow to stand behind you and support you in every step of this transformation,” he assured.
The appointment of Mayor Swaka marks a new chapter for Juba City Council as it seeks to tackle ongoing issues, especially the management of unsightly heaps of garbage, rehabilitation of roads, and improvement of the overall living conditions for residents.
