Governor gifts Northern Bahr el-Ghazal varsity with over 2,000 books

Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Governor Simon Ober Mawut on Thursday donated 2,800 books to the University of Northern Bahr el Ghazal.

Speaking during the handing over of the books, the Governor thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Stephen Chol Ajongo, and the entire academic staff and promised that the State Government would continue to support the university.

“We are here to assure that we will always be available to support you. The resources at our disposal now would not be enough to run an institution like this, but as government we will always commit to support,” Mawut assured.

He said the main purpose of donating the books is to build the capacity of the learners at the university.

Mawut said his government would continue to engage with other good Samaritans to provide assistance.

Prof Ajongo appreciated the support and described it as historic and significant.

I want to thank the State Government for this contribution. The books contributed by the State Government are almost 2,800,” said Ajongo.

Ajongo said the University of Northern Bahr el-Ghazal had appointed more than 12 academic staff, adding that lack of books was a major issue facing the institution.

He outlined that lack of lecturers remains a major challenge facing the new university and called on the National Government to intervene.

He said the university had delayed reopening because of the staff salary arrears.

“We will call a senate meeting to focus on the challenges,” he added.

The books were purchased by the State Government under the Ministry of General Education and Instructions.
