Governor Clement Konga says children being abducted in Equatoria

Central Equatoria governor Clement Wani Konga has alleged that dozens of Equatorian children have been abducted by Dinka Bor and Murle in recent days.

He said the childre are from Liria, Jameza, Lainya and Mangala areas.

“The incident took place in the past few days according to reports on the ground, so such behaviour is not fair and it should be changed,” he stressed.

Konga was speaking at a press conference at his office in Juba Thursday where he described conflicts between pastoralists and farmers as the biggest security threat in South Sudan.

Konga noted many lives were lost in the three Equatoria states only because of the conflicts between the pastoralists and the farmers.

He commended President Salva Kiir's order for all cattle keepers to return to their areas of origin. Konga called upon Equatorian citizens to remain patient saying South Sudan cannot be destroyed because of cows.

Konga further accused Bari leaders of inciting violence against the Mundari tribe. Referring to clashes earlier this year that left 12 people dead, the governor said Bari leaders should have followed legal procedures.

“They went to the president and asked him to remove me, but the president refused to do so. Why do they demand my removal, is it because I am from Mundari tribe?” he asked.

The governor accused Bari leaders of interfering in the state government’s affairs, saying such behaviours should stop.
