Jonglei State Governor Denay Jock Chagor on Friday issued a decree suspending the commissioner of Bor County for allegedly disrespecting the state leadership.
The state information minister, John Samuel Manyuon, told Radio Tamazuj Monday that Commissioner Yuot Alier of Bor County was suspended because he undermined the state governor and his deputy, Jacob Akech Dengdit.
“Apart from misconduct, the major issue has to do with the lack of respect for the state authority because he walked out of a meeting chaired by the governor and his deputy. This is a clear sign that he was not ready to work with the two principals,” he said.
Asked if the suspended commissioner will be investigated or replaced, the state information minister said: “If you might know how the constitutional postholders work, you can only be investigated on corruption allegations. Otherwise, on other grounds like misconduct, there are no investigations for constitutional postholders. When appointed, the next step is obviously a relieve. But at the moment, there is nothing as such.”
However, Yuot Alier dismissed the charges for his suspension as manipulation.
“I was ordered by the governor to leave a meeting hall, and I said thank you, and I left. So, how was I wrong there if you comply with your senior’s orders? I thought if I had resisted, they would have the right to charge me,” Yuot said.
He added, “Again, there was a UN delegation that was in Bor on November 8 for which I was invited by the protocol to a meeting earlier, but while in the meeting, the governor sent me National Security personnel to tell me that I was not wanted. I also left the meeting and went to Juba to attend the Commissioners’ Forum, whose invitation was sent to me through the governor’s office manager. So why are they flipping the information that I walked out when I was being ordered? They have not mentioned the real reasons.”
