Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony on Monday called for unity of purpose among Bari youth to push for sustainable peace and development as preparations for the commemoration of Jubek Day nears.
Jubek Day is celebrated every 8 July at the Jubek Memorial Square in Juba town.
According to Bari elders and Bari folklore, Jubek was born at the end of the nineteenth century and is believed to be the man after whom Juba was named. Jubek’s grave in Juba town was rebuilt in 2010 and the Bari Community has since developed it into a memorial site.
The chairperson of the Bari Community Youth Association (BCYA), Festo Lwoki, on Monday after meeting Governor Adil, told the press that they discussed peace and security in Juba County and the preparations to celebrate Jubek Day.
“I want to thank the governor for standing with the Bari Community and also the Bari Youth Association because currently, our state is peaceful. The cattle are now back to their places of origin and it is all thanks to President Salva Kiir and the governor of our state,” he said. “As the youth office entrusted with organizing this year’s celebration, we came to extend our invitation to the governor to grace this year’s Jubek Day occasion because he is our elder brother and in charge of the state.”
For his part, Governor Adil’s press secretary, Derick Derickson, said that the governor’s office will continue to support the activities of the Bari Youth Association.
“The governor assured of his readiness to support BCYA in and also to support the forthcoming commemoration of Jubek Day,” he said. “He (Adil) will always stand behind all the efforts and is committed to ensuring that unity for a common purpose is embraced by all the community associations in Central Equatoria State,”
