Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony over the weekend inaugurated a new building that will house the Lainya County headquarters and other projects including solar-powered street lights and clean water supply.

He also launched the construction of the county commissioner’s residence, Tomoret FM, and the renovation of Kenyi Primary School.

Adil congratulated the people of Lainya for the successful completion of the projects and urged them to utilize available resources for further development so that peace can prevail in the area.

“Congratulations to the people of Lainya and this house. These are your resources and when there is peace, there is development in the country. The conflict has deprived the people of Central Equatoria and the whole country of development but when there is peace, a lot can happen,” he said. “Those who are still carrying guns and want to fight should take an example from today that we need schools, hospitals, and peace.”

Meanwhile, State Local Government Minister Moro Genecio revealed that the construction of the county headquarters cost SSP 20 million.

“We identified the land for the headquarters and the commissioner presented the project with a cost of SSP 20 million which was a lot of money at the time but it was pledged and availed,” he said.

For his part, National Cabinet Affairs Minister Dr.Elia Lomuro the only thing remaining is the construction of a hospital in Lainya County and revealed that the government has already released money to kick-start the project.

“Development is already done and the only thing remaining is the construction of the hospital for which we have given SSP 15 million to the county authorities to start the project,” he said.

Grace Jokudu, a resident of Lainya, expressed joy and said that with such developmental projects in the county, those who fled the area to refugee camps during the conflict will come back home.

“I thank the commissioner and the local government for the great job they are doing for the people of Lainya,” she said. “With such a great job, I am very sure our people who fled to other countries will come back due to this relative peace and development and I pray that such developments and the peace continue.”

An elder, Joseph Lukudu, also appreciated the commissioner for bringing clean water, power, and other projects to Lainya.

“As an elder, I am very happy with these developments that are taking place and I want our commissioner to continue with such a spirit because now we have water, power, and good roads,” he said. “It will convince our people who are in the refugee camps to return home to develop our place.”

Governor Adil was accompanied to Lainya by National Environment Minister Josephine Napwon, National Cabinet Affairs Minister Dr. Elia Lomuro, the state minister of local government, Moro Genecio, the state minister of gender and social welfare, Huda Micheal Laila, and other dignitaries.
