Governor Adil directs Juba City Council to prioritize cleanness

Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony over the weekend directed the new Mayor of Juba City Council and her administration to prioritize cleaning the city and the roads.

Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony over the weekend directed the new Mayor of Juba City Council and her administration to prioritize cleaning the city and the roads.

On Friday Adil reorganized the administrative structure at the Juba City Council (JCC) and appointed Flora Gabriel Modi as the first-ever female mayor.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of the new City Council Administration, Governor Adil directed the city council administration to address the issue of piling garbage on the roads.

“I dissolved the whole administration of JCC and restructured it because I want you Flora to go and address the issue of cleanness. I want you to address this habit of bringing garbage from the homes to the roads,” he tasked. “This is the face of the country where visitors come. Is this (dumping garbage on roads) the character of South Sudanese? No. I want you to stop this in a way that is organized.”

“Honestly, right from the president to me and the leadership we are not happy with the way Juba is managing cleaning and you must instead raise the momentum from where it is to a higher level of continuous cleaning,” Governor Adil stressed.

He called on the JCC administration to continue with efforts of reorganizing the markets and use the right procedures to collect taxes.

“Reorganize markets and open roads because some citizens are experiencing flooding in some areas. The roads need to be open with support from the state,” Adil said. “The image of the city was very bad with the issue of moving with padlocks and locking up shops and I said this must be corrected. There is a way you collect taxes from our citizens and we have to be friendly to them.”

For her part, Mayor Flora Gabriel Modi pledged to work together with her deputies to keep Juba City clean.

“I am fully committed to working with my deputies to deliver services on the mandate entrusted upon us,” the new mayor pledged. “We will be working together in contributing and realizing our shared vision of the state of keeping Juba clean and green. We will ensure there is security, clean drinking water, and other services within Juba City with integrity, transparency, and accountability together with my deputies.”
