Government troops comprise of the SPLA army and security in Yambio town in South Sudan’s Gbudue State killed a senior commander of a former rebel group calling itself South Sudan National Liberation Movement (SSNLM) on Sunday.

The Speaker of Gbudue State Legislative Assembly, Victor Edward told Radio Tamazuj today that Brig. Gen. James Kabila Bingo was killed together with several of his security guards after he declined to go to Juba for investigations after being accused of killing several people including a World Vision staff member in Yambio last week.

“The security officers asked Kabila to go to Juba for investigations but he refused and he was also asked to surrender to the state government but he refused. So SPLA and security forces went to his place so that he could be taken to Juba but he started shooting at those forces,” said Victor.

“Kabila shot one of the soldiers then the forces responded, so when he tried to escape, he was shot dead because his house was surrounded by the government forces,” he added.

The government official confirmed their commitment to implement the peace agreement signed with South Sudan National Liberation Movement (SSNLM).

Victor revealed that the integration process of former rebel fighters into regular military forces in the area of Yambio is ongoing.

Thousands of former members of the South Sudan National Liberation Movement (SSNLM), the former Arrow Boys or South Sudan People’s Patriotic Front (SSPPF), and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army – In Opposition, surrendered more than a year ago following the government’s promise to reintegrate them into the ranks of regular forces.
