Government troop movements in Malakal

The capital of Upper Nile State today witnessed a heavy military presence and reinforcements of army troops in the city. Dispalced people living under UN protection did not leave the prtoection site today.

A dispalced resident of the Malakal Protection Site told Radio Tamazuj citizens had not gone out from the camp since the morning due to presence of SPLA forces.

“Today we are inside UNMISS and we have not gone outside since the morning. … in Malakal there is not a problem but there is fear,” he said.

He said he did not know the number of new troops that arrived but confirmed he had seen government military movements.

Upper Nile's Minister of Local Government told Radio Tamazuj, “I don't have enough information now about the situation inside Malakal.” He was in Upper Nile State but not outside the state capital.
