Over forty trucks loaded with subsidized food arrived in South Sudan’s capital Juba Thursday as part of a government scheme to control skyrocketing food prices.
Commerce undersecretary Biel Jock Thick said they received 17 trucks carrying wheat flour, ten trucks of beans, and fifteen trucks of sugar, while more are on their way.
He said the total cost to import this food is about 10 million dollars and that the food will be transported to all ten states.
Juba mayor Christopher Sarafino Wani added that the government has further formed a committee on the economic crisis and market controls.
He said the government contracted eight companies to supply the food.
