Parties sign memorandum of understanding in Northern Liech state

Authorities in South Sudan’s Northern Liech state signed on Wednesday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the armed opposition group (SPLM-IO) to restore peace and stability.

Authorities in South Sudan’s Northern Liech state signed on Wednesday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the armed opposition group (SPLM-IO) to restore peace and stability.

The state deputy governor, Laraka Machar told Radio Tamazuj that the MoU stipulates that forces from both sides stay in their respective places.

“It also calls for formation of a joint committee led by county commissioners to visit all opposition counties,” he said.

The joint committee, Machar said on Thursday, was tasked with disseminating the revitalized peace deal signed in September 2018.

A joint security body, he further added, was also formed in the area.

The two parties, according to the official, immediately started implementing the provisions within the MoU, expressing optimism that it will build confidence and end criminal acts in the region.
