South Sudan’s acting Chairperson for the Local Government Board, Dhel Rom Deng, has died in a car accident along the Kuajok-Wau Road.
Western Bahr el Ghazal State Minister of Health Dr. Francis Michael Hassan told Radio Tamazuj on Saturday that Deng was on an official visit to Kuajok and was meant to fly to Juba from Wau Airport but perished in a road crash in Kuany-Ayok near Marial-Bai payam of Jur River County.
“We, in the government in Western Bahr el Ghazal State, are surprised by a road accident along Kuajok-Wau Road, and this accident resulted in the death of the acting chairperson of the local government in Juba,” said Francis.
He further said Deng was travelling in a car with three people who sustained critical injuries and were admitted at Wau Teaching Hospital, awaiting transfer to Juba for further treatment.
“According to the information, there were four people in the car, and the acting chairperson died on the spot due to multiple injuries on his head,” Francis explained.
He also sent a message of condolence to the deceased’s friends and family members on behalf of the Western Bahr el Ghazal State Government.
Meanwhile, medical doctor Dr Arik Baptist at Wau Teaching Hospital said the deceased died from heavy bleeding due to head injuries.
“I examined him and found that he had a fracture on the skull. That is the cause of his death,” Baptist confirmed.
