A group of militias supported by the government in Malakal town in South Sudan’s Upper Nile State prevented internally displaced persons sheltering inside the UN Protection of Civilians Site (PoC) from burying a dead body on Friday.
A source who preferred anonymity told Radio Tamazuj that armed militias loyal to President Kiir stopped the displaced people from burying a woman who died on Friday.
He pointed out that the displaced people were forced to bury their dead on Saturday about one kilometre away from the UN base in the presence of UN peacekeepers.
The same source hinted that the UN peacekeepers may have consulted the government to allow the burial of the deceased the following day.
