Several government employees of Renk County in Upper Nile state have complained of the non-payment of their monthly salaries of January, April, and May, resulting in a deterioration of their living conditions.
In a statement to Radio Tamazuj Kur Ajak Deng, the head of Renk County workers union, expressed fears about the country’s economy, especially in the light of the rise in prices of commodities in the local markets, underlining the general discontent that workers feel these days.
He pointed to the state authorities that “they should pay the workers’ salaries as it is their constitutionals right”.
“The main challenge which is facing us currently is the non-payment monthly salaries of the government employees,” he said. “I have been to the capital and met with officials as well as the Director General of the Ministry of Finance. I also discussed the challenges delaying payment of the monthly salaries of government employees in the county.
“The newly appointed Minister acknowledged that there has been a delay in the monthly salaries; March was paid normally, but we were again surprised in June when we did not receive our salaries”, Deng said.
