South Sudan government on Monday distanced itself from the recent deadly clashes between the SPLA-IO faction allied to Riek Machar and rebel fighters allied to Lam Akol in which two top commanders loyal to Akol were shot dead in northern Upper Nile.
The two factions continue to trade accusations of receiving support from the current government in Juba.
Ateny Wek Ateny, South Sudan’s presidential spokesman, told Radio Tamazuj that the government had nothing to do with the recent clashes between the two rebel groups in northern Upper Nile, claiming they are now focusing on implementation of the signed peace agreement.
“The government is now busy with the implementation of the peace agreement, while the rebels are fighting among themselves, so this is not part of what we are doing,” he said.
Ateny pointed out that that they don’t support rebel forces on either side.
