A delegation of government representatives travelled to Ethiopia this evening to begin negotiations with the opposition on peace in the country.

A delegation of government representatives travelled to Ethiopia this evening to begin negotiations with the opposition on peace in the country.

"However, it is worth mentioning that in case of anything, we shall definitely be in contact with His Excellency the President whenever any issues arise,” Minister of Information Michael Makuei said in a statement beforing boarding a plane to Addis Ababa.

Makuei, who is also the official spokesman, reiterated his government’s commitment to negotiate in good faith to bring peace in South Sudan.

“We will come back with peace unless the other side decides to do otherwise, but here we are going to the peace talks, this final consultative meeting with clear directives,” he said.

The intensive consultation between South Sudan’s parties in Addis Ababa is scheduled for 16-18 June.
