Authorities in Gbudue State said a committee from the national government in Juba has arrived in the state to facilitate the integration of more than 3,000 armed opposition forces that abandoned the opposition last year and joined the government.

Gbudue Minister of Local Government Jackson Ezekiel told Radio Tamazuj that the integration follows President Salva Kiir’s amnesty announced recently.

“They are around 3,000 opposition forces who were fighting the government but after responding to the amnesty of the President, they decided to come back and surrender their weapons. Some were from the SPLA-IO and some of them were part of other opposition groups,” said Ezekiel.

The state official pointed out that the committee visited the armed group at Derebi where they undergone a military training for 18 months in preparation for joining the national army.
