A cameraman who worked in the Office of the President is confirmed to have died as a result of the recent fighting in South Sudan’s capital Juba.
The death of Kamula Duro was confirmed by presidential Press Secretary Ateny Wek on his Facebook page.
A colleague of the late photographer said he was shot near UN house in Jebel when he went to collect his wife from the UN camp. He was initially reported to have been shot on his hands and legs but he later died.
Kamula lived southwest of Jebel near the area where journalist Julius Moi was killed last year.
According to well-wishers writing on the Facebook page of Kamula, he was well loved by many. “I am deeply saddened by the passing on of a friend and brother Kamula Duro.. until his death he was a security detail in the South Sudan State house and a member of the presidential press unit,” said one of them.
Another stated, “It was a big shock to me yesterday and I couldn’t take the news but woke up to the reality that this senseless and useless war has taken you away from us.”
