Government assigns Martin Elia as acting foreign minister

South Sudan’s Cabinet Affairs, Martin Elia Lomuro, has been assigned by the government as the acting foreign minister, along with his current post, a top diplomat confirmed.

James Morgan, South Sudan's ambassador to Ethiopia, told Radio Tamazuj that Minister Elia Martin will serve as the acting foreign minister until Deng Alor returns to Juba.

Foreign Minister Deng Alor, leader of the former detainees’ group in Juba, has been staying outside the country since the second phase of the peace forum was suspended on February 16.

Deng said recently that he was being humiliated by the government since he started to serve in the unity government in Juba.

The South Sudanese government, in a letter dated  23 April 2018 and seen by Radio Tamazuj, informed IGAD, African Union, European Union, United Nations and other bodies of the new assignment given to cabinet affairs minister, Martin Elia Lomuro as the acting foreign affairs and international cooperation minister.

Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro, is now the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan. All letters should be addressed in that order,” the latter reads in part.
