Fighting between government and opposition forces has continued from Wednesday until Thursday around Yuai town in South Sudan’s Bieh State, according to local residents.

Michael Yien, a local resident in Jonglei, told Radio Tamazuj that the fighting between the two rival forces started on Wednesday and continued until Thursday, while accusing government troops of committing atrocities against civilians.

“The government is supposed to fight with people with guns instead of killing innocent civilians like women, children and the elderly. They are also torching houses,” he said.

Meanwhile, SPLA-IO spokesperson in Unity State James Yoach confirmed that their forces have been fighting with government forces around Yuai town.

He accused the government forces of attacking their positions, saying the fighting was still continuing until Thursday.

The rebel spokesman also claimed that there were clashes between their forces and SPLA in Wunkur and Tunga area in Upper Nile state on Thursday.

For his part, Santo Domic, the SPLA deputy spokesperson denied knowledge of any fighting with rebels around Yuai and Upper Nile.
