Citizens in Maridi County in South Sudan’s Western Equatoria State have accused the government of bombing civilians in the area during the last two days.

Khamis Hawsan, a local resident from Maridi town, told Radio Tamazuj that the government aircrafts dropped bombs on their area on Wednesday evening and Thursday.

He said yesterday “The government aircrafts have been bombing our area in Maridi from yesterday and until today. We don’t know where to go or flee. We are suffering, many civilians were injured or killed” Khamis said.

Khamis pointed out that they couldn’t cross to neighbouring countries due to the closure of borders by the government. He called on the international community to stop the government from committing atrocities against the citizens in the area.

For his part, Col. Santo Doming, deputy spokesperson of the SPLA forces, denied carrying out any air attacks in Maridi area. He claimed that the state governor assured the SPLA leadership that the security situation was calm.

Radio Tamazuj couldn’t independently verify the alleged bombing of civilians in Maridi area.
