Governance Committee members threaten boycott of Sudan’s national dialogue

Members of the Governance and Outcomes Committee in Sudan’s ongoing national dialogue have threatened to boycott future meetings to protest statements made by Ibrahim Muhmud Hamid, a presidential assistant and member of the 7+7 Committee.

Members of the Governance and Outcomes Committee in Sudan’s ongoing national dialogue have threatened to boycott future meetings to protest statements made by Ibrahim Muhmud Hamid, a presidential assistant and member of the 7+7 Committee.

Hamid was reported to have said that anyone talking about the formation of a transitional government are dreaming.

Dr. Saad-Eddin Mohammed Al-Tayib, a member of the Governance Committee, told Radio Tamazuj that fellow members were upset about the comments.

“Those statements could affect the dialogue,” he said. He pointed out that his committee had presented a proposal offering a transitional period of three or four years. The proposal was unanimously accepted by all members of the committee, which is why he was perplexed by Mahmud’s comments.

“Now the Committee of Governance has threated to boycott the national dialogue if the presidential assistant does not apologize,” Saad-Eddin said. “He should also be held accountable for his statement.”
