Authorities in Gok state have arrested a youth leader allegedly for diverting public attention during a peace and reconciliation campaign to complain against the introduction of taxation bill, which imposes huge sum of taxation fees.
Abraham Ater Dut Dong was arrested on Wednesday on directives of Wat Adol County commissioner after he used the opportunity to speak during a public rally to complain against introduction of huge taxation by the State Governor
He told Radio Tamazuj that he was arrested for commenting on the taxation Act 2016, that imposed 1000 SSP, three tins of durra and three tins of groundnut to be paid by a tax payer.
The youth leader claimed he was appealing to the state Governor to initiate the amendments of the Taxation Act 2016, He added that he was interrupted and forced to stop talking before completing his remarks and was immediately arrested by the County Commissioner in present of Gok state Governor Madhang Majok Meen.
Joseph Makuer Majuec Wat Adol county commissioner confirmed the arrest and said Ater diverted from the agenda and instead started challenging the Governor publicly. The Agenda, he said, was a campaign for peace and reconciliation, but youth leader decided to divert the participant to a wrong agenda, that is why he was arrested.
The Commissioner added that he will be taken to court for investigation. The official did not say when the youth leader would be taken to court and whether charges relative the laws he has breached has been prepared against him.
