Traditional chiefs in the four counties of Gok state are calling for civil disarmament in the area, saying the prevalence of firearms in the hands of unauthorized persons was becoming a security concern.
The chiefs, who gathered in Citchok County, Gok state, officially appealed to the state authorities to disarm the civil populations. The Chiefs made these calls during a one day peace Meeting held in Citchok. The dialogue was meant to discuss peace and reconciliation, road ambushes and apprehension of the culprits in the four counties in Gok state. The affected areas include Citchok, Pagoor, Citchok, and Duony counties. The representative of the Chiefs Mador Khoc Deng said the state will be free from the criminal’s activities when the illegal guns are taken from the hands of the civilians.
Chief Mador pointed out that the presence illicit guns in the hands of untrained people is a disaster. The four county commissioners who were in attendance told the gathering that the disarmament processes will be carried out across the state as mentioned earlier by the state Governor.
The Bishop of state Episcopal Church of the Sudan and South Sudan Elijah Matueny Awet who was also facilitating peace meeting told both the state government and citizens to forget the past and consider the future of the newly created state Gok. Bishop Elijah expresses the Church readiness to support the state government in the implementation of the peace agreement so as to move the nation forward. The meeting was attended by Chiefs, Armed youth, women and elderly people from the four counties of Gok state.
