Gok minister fired for poor prison construction

The Gok State Minister for Local Government and Law Enforcement has been sacked for not completing a construction project, according to the state governor Madhang Majok Meen.

The decision to fire Samuel Wel Maciek was announced at a council of ministers meeting. The Gok governor said that Maciek was given an assignment to construct the Ngatinga prison with another official, but it was not completed properly.

Maciek told Eye Radio that the construction was not completed because many people lost their lives when the was a county under former Lakes state. He added that the prision was closed down by the fomer Governor of Lakes state, Matur Chut Dhuol, due to an increase of human rights violations reports.

The firing of Maciek comes after Meen has fired a slew of other officials including the Local Government Minister Samuel Wel Maciek, Information Minister John Madol Panther, Education Minister Victoria Akur Jongkuc, Commissioner of the State Headquarters James Aguer Dut and State Secretary General Santino Ater Mon.

No reason was given for their sacking, and they have not been replaced.
