The governor of South Sudan’s Gok state Madhang Majok Meen has declared a dusk to dawn curfew in Cueibet, the administrative headquarters of the newly created state.

The governor of South Sudan’s Gok state Madhang Majok Meen has declared a dusk to dawn curfew in Cueibet, the administrative headquarters of the newly created state.

This comes after inter-communal clashes between Waat and Yiel communities in the area, resulting in the death of at least 20 people and 18 others wounded.

Governor Madhang told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that the order is restricting movement of people in Cueibet town, adding that Cueibet residents will be required to be indoors by 6:30pm to 6:30am daily.

The state official pointed out that the objective is to help authorities enforce law and order in the area.” It is a security measure to enforce law and order.   It was the result of the security committee meeting, which we convened over the weekend after some youth caused disturbances,” he explained.

“This is a temporary measure to allow for evaluation of the situation,”he added.

Madhang revealed that security forces have been deployed to protect citizens’ lives and properties.
