Madhang Majok Meen Governor of Gok state in South Sudan on Thursday issued an order appointing Akec Chol Goljok as the local government advisor.
Akec is one of the longest serving executive chief of Duony County. His alleviation as Advisor to the state Ministry of Local Government and Law Enforcement Agencies comes into effect from February 2nd, 2017. The appointment has received mixed reactions from the public. The critics cited illiteracy of the new official whom they alleged to not know how to read and write. Others have welcomed his appointment, saying he has huge experience in local governance and he would be helpful to the ministry.
Local officials see it as denial of the rights of educated people, claiming there are educated people and experienced local government Officers, who served for more than thirty years. These people, according to the critics of the new official, should be the ones to be considered instead of bringing and promoting “incompetence person” to the system
