Warrap State’s Gogrial West County has run out of lifesaving medicines and locals are unable to access free health services since the last medical consignment dispatched from Juba in December last year ran out.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj over the weekend, Gogrial West County Commissioner Wek Koor Aru confirmed that his county is facing health-related challenges and has been grappling with sufficient vital drugs for the last two months.

“There are challenges in accessing health services because there are no sufficient medicines at the Gogrial County Hospital and if you visit it now, you will not get the drugs,” he stated.

According to the commissioner, the common diseases afflicting people in his area are malaria, typhoid, and diarrhea which is affecting a high number of children.  He revealed that the last consignment of drugs from the national health ministry was in December and was distributed to all payam health care units and has since been depleted.

“Many diseases including malaria, typhoid, and diarrhea are affecting small children, and although medical consignment was sent from Juba to the county, it was distributed to some payam health units and the quantities have finished,” Koor added.

A source who is aware of health challenges in the county and spoke on condition of anonymity, said 39 people suffering from diarrheal infections were admitted at the Gogrial West County Hospital but that 10 have since been discharged.

“10 people who contracted diarrheal infections were discharged yesterday (Sunday) and 29 others are awaiting medications at the Gogrial County Hospital,” he said.

Efforts to contact the Warrap State Health Ministry for comment were futile.
