Gogrial MPs urge government to stop Apuk-Aguok conflict

Members of the Gogrial State Legislative Assembly have appealed to the national government in Juba to dispatch more troops to stop fighting between the Apuk and Aguok communities in the state.

Members of the Gogrial State Legislative Assembly have appealed to the national government in Juba to dispatch more troops to stop fighting between the Apuk and Aguok communities in the state.

This comes after at least 32 people were reported killed and 40 others wounded during clashes between the Apuk and Aguok community earlier this month.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Anei Mawien, a member of state parliament, said the state government is unable to control the ongoing conflict between the two communities.

"The national government should urgently deploy more forces to the deputed areas to stop the fighting and arrest those who were behind the recent violence," said Anei.

Anei urged traditional leaders of the Apuk and Aguok clans to stop fighting and accept peaceful dialogue as the only mean to solve their differences.

Meanwhile, Deng Akol Mareng, a lawmaker in the state, also called on the government to urgently disarm the two communities as the only way to stop revenge killings.

"What happened between the community of Aguok and Apuk is a concern of the state government because our people who voted for us are now killing themselves," he said.
