The governor of South Sudan’s Gogrial State, home to President Salva Kiir, has sacked his deputy and appointed a new official less than a year since appointed into the office.

The governor of South Sudan’s Gogrial State, home to President Salva Kiir, has sacked his deputy and appointed a new official less than a year since appointed into the office.

Governor Victor Atem Atem removed Kuanyin Kuanyin from the position of deputy governor and appointed former minister of physical infrastructure as the new deputy.

In the order which became public on Friday, Governor Atem appointed Mayar Deng Mayar as the new deputy governor.

No official statement explaining the cause behind the changes.

 Officials at the legislature and the office of the governor attribute the motive to the need to enhance performance and improve the working relations between different institutions in the state and communities as well as officials and communities.
