Abraham Gum Makuac, governor of the proposed Gogrial state has issued an executive order sacking the Apuk West County commissioner less than 6 months following the creation and the appointment of the official position.
Governor Gum, according to the order he issued on Monday, removed from the office Nyang Ngor Deng without immediate replacement and without explanation about the changes.
Several local officials, however, have provided conflicting accounts behind the cause for his removal. Some have alleged that the changes were politically motivated after the commissioner allegedly allowed politicians opposed to the governor to hold a series of meetings at which they attempted to incite the local population. The county commissioner did not intervene to stop these meetings.
Others, however, attributed the decision to allegation that the commissioner had allowed some people who escaped from prison in Kuacjok after being arrested in connection to masterminding communal violence in which several lives and properties were lost.
All the county commissioners were directed to trace and hand them to police authorities and not to allow any suspect to stay in their territories after escaping from detention.
