Gogrial governor asks communities to nominate 5 members of parliament

Abraham Gum, governor of the newly established Gogrial State has directed community leaders and to start consultations for nomination of new members of state parliament.

According to the caretaker minister of information Ariech Mayar Ariech, the governo said the directive was in fulfillment of the presidential establishment order which dissolved the former ten states including the state assemblies and divided the country into 28 states.

The presidency has required that each state have a parliament made up of 21 members and a cabinet with from 5 to 7 members, depending on the size of the area and population.

Ariech said there were already 16 members from the previous parliament, falling short of the target of 21 members by 5 members.

Therefore the caretaker governor has determined that two MP positions should be given to Aguok community, one to Kuac, one Awan Mou, and one to the Apuk community to nominate and make selection for people who would occupy the new parliamentary positions.

“The Kuac Ayok community has already completed consultation and they have selected the person to occupy the position they would be fulfilled in the state parliament,” said Ariech Monday.
