Elders of South Sudan’s Gogrial State have agreed to bring an end to the ongoing conflict between feuding communities in the state during meetings held in Yei River State, a state official said.

Governor Gregory Deng Kuac told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that he and the elders have concluded the discussion with a consensus to end conflicts and work with the government for unity and reconciliation in the state.

“The elders and I returned to Juba on Thursday from Yei where we continued with the discussions we had here in July,” he said.

“We moved to Yei because it was a quieter place. It is free from political interferences and disturbances and to go and learn from the experience of the people of Yei and their government,” he added.

Nyal Chan Nyal, Paramount Chief of Awan Chan, said that they have agreed to stop the fighting between the communities and prioritize unity.

“The meeting went well. There was a consensus from all those who attended that it was time for all the communities to stop fighting first without condition. Secondly, it was also agreed that all community leaders should work together with the government at all levels to enhance reconciliation, forgiveness and make peace,” he said.
