Residents in Gogrial East County in South Sudan’s Warrap state face food shortages and spread of diseases, according to the local authorities.
In an interview with Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, Commissioner Wol Anei Anei said thousands of local residents have been affected by the flooding that hit the area recently, saying the flood-stricken people are currently facing hunger.
He attributed the problem to a failed agriculture season this year in all the payams due to floods. The official further said the floods caused outbreak of diseases among citizens.
He called on the national government in Juba and international NGOs to intervene urgently to help the needy people.
Separately, Commissioner Anei Anei asserted that the security situation in the area is normal, saying there were not any cases of cattle raiding reported recently along the Warrap-Unity border.
He further pointed out that they were experiencing soaring prices of commodities at the market without proving further details.
