Gogrial authorities hope for 40m SSP from new household tax

The governor of Gogrial state Abraham Gum Makuac has estimated that revenues from a new household tax will reach to 40 million South Sudanese pounds if collections are done appropriately by the concerned institutions.

In June this year, the government of the state decreed an increase of the household tax from 30 SSP to 500 SSP on the grounds that the new state needs funds for its development.

Gum has also appointed Ater Ater as the commissioner of state revenue this month for the first time since greater Warrap was split into three states.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony last week in Kwajok town, Gum said that his government is determined to achieve its priorities.

He pointed out that the new commissioner would work hard to stop cases of illegal tax collection going on in markets and major routes into the state. He stressed that huge amounts of money end up in the hands of the wrong people, and this could could be used for the development of the state.
