Gogrial authorities call on citizens to welcome SPLA-IO members

The governor of the proposed Gogrial state has called on citizens to openly welcome members of the SPLA-In Opposition and work together to fully implement the peace agreement that was signed last year 2015.

Abraham Gum Makuac said the return of SPLA-IO leader Riek Machar and formation of the transitional government of national unity mark the end of differences.

Speaking to church congregation at St Joseph Catholic church in Kuacjok on Sunday, Gum said that it is time to stop using hate speech against anyone.

“Don’t continue gossiping about Dr. Riek Machar because he is appointed as the first Vice president," he said, adding that it is the responsibility of all citizens to respect peace.

“This is because since the transitional government of national unity was formed we are now required to work together in order to fully implement the peace agreement. If we have our people who have joined SPLM/A-IO or members of other political parties here in this state, then I want all of you to stay in peace with them because there is nobody that can chase away his or her own people," he explained.

Gum said it is clearly stipulated in the peace agreement that members of the SPLA-IO may move freely in their respective states.

He also called on church leaders to always pray for peace and help the government in preaching peace messages at public places.
